Free.Get all the latest Pasadena news, more than 10 fresh stories daily, 7 days a week at 7 a.m. 0 commentsShareShareTweetSharePin it Los Angeles County authorities have released the identity of the elderly man who was killed when the ambulance he was riding in collided with a four-door Jaguar on Sunday.Department of Coroner Chief of Operations Craig Harvey said the man was Nelson Munoz Vergara, 79, a retired priest from another country who was living at a Pasadena convalescent home.Earlier, coroner’s investigators tried to locate Vergara’s kin, but were only able to ascertain his identity after checking with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.Monica Valencia, spokeswoman at the archdiocese, said the victim was a visiting priest from another country, although no further details were available as of late Thursday.Officials learned Vergara was being taken to a routine dialysis appointment when the crash took place.Pasadena Police investigators said the LifeLine ambulance was going south on Fair Oaks Avenue when the northbound Jaguar crossed lanes and collided with it.Two other persons in the ambulance including the driver also suffered injuries, while the woman driving the Jaguar suffered a broken leg. Her injuries were not life-threatening, authorities said.Police are still determining why the Jaguar crossed into the opposite lanes.
